    3      C.            asparagus -- drained
    1 1/2  C.            tomato juice
      1/3  C.            vinegar
    1 1/2  Tsp.          salt
      1/2  Tsp.          pepper
                         sugar substitute to equal
    1      Tsp.          sugar
      1/4  Tsp.          paprika
    1      Medium        chopped onion
    2      Tsp.          chopped onion
    2      Tsp.          chopped parsley
    1      Tsp.          dill
                         lettuce leaves
 
 Place the asparagus in a shallow dish and set aside.
 Combine the remaining ingredients (except the lettuce) in a
 blender and mix well. Pour the mixture over the asparagus and
 marinate for 1 hour; drain. Place the asparagus on the lettuce
 leaves. Garnish with strips of pimento, if desired and remain- 
 ing marinade. 
 Yields 6 servings.
