    2                    ripe pears -- any variety
    2      medium        cucumbers
    1      teaspoon      sesame oil*
    2      tablespoons   rice wine vinegar*
                         salt and freshly ground black pepper -- to taste
                         lettuce leaves -- optional
 
 *Available in finer supermarkets and Asian specialty shops
 
 Core the pears and cut into small bite-sized pieces.  Split the cucumbers in ha
 lf length-wise and scoop out the seeds with a teaspoon.  Slice the cucumber int
 o thin slices.  Combine all ingredients in a bowl and toss.  Serve on bed of le
 ttuce leaves.  Serves 4 to 6.
