      1/4  c             butter -- softened
    2      c             powdered sugar -- sifted
    2      tbsps         milk
      1/2  tsp           vanilla
                         food coloring 
 
 Cream butter;  gradually add sugar, beating well.  Add milk and vanilla,
 mixing until smooth.  Color if desired.
